The military justice system for the US military... well, it looks more like justice than the civilian justice system, which more resembles a legal system.

And, no, those are not the same.

Either way, Non-Judicial Punishments are one of the backbones of the military judicial system, even though they are emphatically not a conviction nor a criminal trial. But they get the point across. Which is sometimes all that's needed.

Because just because a servicemember screws up, that doesn't mean he's a lost cause. But that also doesn't mean you should let him off easy.
