America Flamingos Visit Tampa Bay Area

Flamingos do not naturally possess their vibrant plumage colors; instead, these colors are acquired through the pigments present in the foods they consume.
They have a diverse diet, including algae, and various aquatic invertebrates such as brine, shrimp, and mollusks. While foraging, flamingos typically stand in the shallows, deftly using their feet to disturb the muddy bottom. They employ a unique feeding technique by positioning their heads with the bill upside-down, its tip pointing backward, and then gracefully sweeping their heads from side to side.
With remarkable precision, they rapidly move their tongues to pump water in and out of their slightly open bills. The clever design of their bills, with upper and lower parts fitting together seamlessly and featuring comb-like plates on the edges, allows them to effectively sift food from the water.
