The 2000 Presidential Election cycle featured Texas Governor George W. Bush, the Republican nominee, and Vice President Al Gore, the Democratic nominee. The first debate featured a 90-minute discussion with the topics selected by the moderator, with candidates questioned in-turn, followed by a rebuttal. Moderated by Jim Lehrer of PBS, it took place on October 3, 2000, in Boston.
