A deadline for the French ambassador to leave Niger as required by the new coup government has expired, and a massive protest over the official’s refusal took place in the capital of Niamey. Protesters condemned the former colonial power of France and the hold it had over their country. Local media also reported that the coup government has cut power and water to the French Embassy, and if the diplomats still refuse to leave, they'll be evicted by force.
