Russian authorities have confirmed the death of Yevgeny Prigozhin, leader of the Wagner Group, in a plane crash just outside Moscow.

The crash resulted in the fatalities of all ten individuals onboard, including Prigozhin, who had previously spearheaded a mutiny against Russia’s army in June.

The incident took place when a private Embraer Legacy 600 aircraft en route from Moscow to Saint Petersburg crashed, killing its ten occupants which included three crew members.

Eight bodies have been recovered so far. Russia’s Federal Agency for Air Transport has initiated a commission to investigate the crash. After the incident, a second jet associated with Prigozhin, initially bound for St Petersburg, rerouted to Moscow.
