In this video I talk about my timing issues Tuning the Bosch VE Pump on my Jeep Cherokee XJ. I also install a new fuel pin for more power!
One year ago I swapped the electronic Bosch diesel pump out of my 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ 2.5td and swapped in an earlier 0460404078 Mechanical VE Pump. The end result was a less sensor dependant engine with better tuning for boost and more power.
Its about a year later and after running and testing the Jeep across the summer and winter the pump needed some adjustments.
I had the pump setup too retarded and the advance timing plunger was on constantly advancing the timing, but not quite enough in the piston stroke.
After disabling the plunger and manually advancing the timing by rotating the pump, its eliminated rough starts, exhaust smoke and most of all very high EGT's.
The end result is a very noticeable power gain top end in high load situations but with drastically lower EGT's by as much as 200c.

This video is in response to the messages and emails I am getting for people doing the mechanical pump swap. Hopefully this helps you get to the desired outcome faster than I did.
