Experiencing the Pakistan Floods on Pakistan's Deadliest Roads 🇵🇰 | Pakistan Flash Flood

Today’s video is packed with adventure! This has been one of the longest days in Pakistan. We begin our day with a 3-hour hike out of Fairy Meadows. Check out the beautiful views of Nanga Parbat and the Raikot glacier. Then, we load a jeep and ride along the scariest road of our lives, forwards and in reverse on Pakistan's deadliest road. This is our second time on this road and both times, we thought we might just drop 1,000 meters to our death. We made it, though, thanks to our driver’s incredible skills.

We reward ourselves at a roadside stand of fresh cherries and apricots. Northern Pakistan’s Hunza Valley is famous for its fruits. This is cherry and apricot season, and they grow apples later on in the year. The best part of this stop is that they pack the fruit in the snow from Babusar Pass! After a few more hours of riding along the Karakoram Highway, we stop at a bizarre for chapshoro (Pakistani mutton pizza) and pink popcorn! Let us know if you know what it is made from (we don’t think it is made from corn). And, just when we think we couldn’t eat any more fruit, we come across several apricot trees right on the side of the road. Jonathan is eating fruit from the tree when the owner sees him and brings him a kilo of freshly picked apricots for our trip. Everyone we have met in Pakistan is so friendly. Also, check out the scenery of the Hunza Valley in this part of the video: snow-capped mountains, terraced hillsides, and mountains for miles.

Then, we stopped in our tracks, as we come up to a flooded road crossing. On this single car road, there is no way to “go back.” We are stuck in a queue of cars headed straight towards the flood. We watch car after car attempt to cross it, and then it is our turn. Can our SUV make it? Many doubts run through our minds, which seems to be a recurring thing for us today. Luckily, our driver is used to this and his driving skills get us across.

Before we get to our homestay, we stop for dinner. We load up on chicken korma and spicey dal mosh. We load the car one more time and before we know it we are finally “home.” We are welcomed by our wonderful host family and we snuggle into bed for a much needed rest.

ABOUT US
We are the Bags Packed Family: Jonathan and Kelly with our three children. We sold our home in Alaska, USA, seven years ago, and headed overseas. We are teachers and found fantastic teaching positions in India. Two years later, we moved to the United Arab Emirates. Three years after that, during the beginning of the pandemic, we made the move to our current teaching jobs in Indonesia. We love traveling and finding adventures as a family. We hope that our travels will inspire and provide our children with the confidence to meet new people, try new foods, and enjoy learning a new language. We hope our vlogs will inspire you to get out and travel, too!
