Penguins saved from environmental pollution return to ocean in Argentina
Magellanic penguins were returned to the sea from the beaches of San Clemente del Tuyu, Argentina after being saved from pollution. Rescuers from the Foundation Mundo Marino took care of the animals, bringing them back to health after they suffered malnutrition, dehydration and hypothermia due to petroleum and plastics exposure.
Magellanic penguins are listed as ‘near threatened’ by the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species. According to the Wildlife Conservation Society, climate change, sea pollution and habitat degradation are some of the biggest threats to the species.
