Inside an UNDERGROUND CITY Found 85 Meters Below the Surface! | Turkey Travel Vlog Derinkuyu (Ep. 9)

Welcome to the largest excavated underground city in Turkey! In the center of the small town of Derinkuyu, there is a massive tunnel system beneath the ground. This ancient underground city has a depth of about 85 meters (279 ft), and it can house up to 20,000 people!

This was used as a place of shelter throughout history. It is thought to have been carved out in the 7th or 8th century, BC!

Strangely enough, this underground city was lost and rediscovered a few times throughout history. The most recent was in 1963, when a man was remodeling his house and discovered a strange room behind one of his walls. After investigating, he found an access point to a several-thousand year old ancient underground city!
