Epic Battle Fantasy 4 (PC) - Epic Mode - Part 38: Dark Matt Superboss Fight

As we continue our ascent up Battle Mountain, the way to the central cave above where we fought Rainbow Rafflesia is now open! Inside this cave lie four more Superbosses and four of the hardest bosses in the entire game! Say hello to the Dark Players!

Second on our list is Dark Matt, an undead pirate who is, in my opinion, the hardest of the Dark Players. Don't bother buffing yourself here, because Dark Matt's Anarchy sword will Dispel you with every hit, and that's IF it doesn't do quite enough damage to kill you. Like Dark Anna before him, Dark Matt can also use Matt's Cleaver Limit Break, which WILL kill at least one party member unless you use Natalie's limit break to give everyone Auto-Life status beforehand. He can also heal and buff himself by eating a bat periodically, and he summons one of the worst types of enemies as backup: Monoliths! He starts the fight with two Viking Monoliths by his side that can buff the entire enemy party as well as freeze you on top of their devastating charge attack. Syphon those things ASAP! Dark Matt can also summon Undying and Sky Monoliths with his limit breaks which are no better.

As if all of that didn't make for one hell of a difficult boss fight, when you get Dark Matt down to 1/4-1/3 of his health, he'll switch his sword to the Drill Spear which deals more damage the higher your defense is buffed. So at first buffing was pointless because of his sword's Dispel ability, but in the final phase buffing actually becomes counterproductive. He also has the most HP of all of the Dark Players dragging out the fight even longer!

The Debuff Trifecta (Weaken, Curse, Tired) will be your best friend in this battle, as well as Poison status (though this doesn't work if you're playing with All Challenges on, and if you are, all I can say is GOOD LUCK).
