Anthony Chaffee MD podcast

"When I first became engaged with low
carb community...
-My lab was studying ketones' effect on fat
-Low Carb Breckenridge contacted me
-my first exposure to keto community
-they had a fear of protein
-drinking MCT oil, adding butter...
Original ketogenic diets used to treat
epilepsy [ultra high fat, low protein, no carb]
-patients had to be in STRICT KETOSIS

Insulin might increase in presence of protein...
-this would drop ketone production
Next time I spoke to same group:
-this was my assigned topic!
NO NEED TO FEAR SMALL RISE IN
INSULIN--if you are low carb, why?
-at SAME TIME:
-glucagon will rise as much or MORE
"If eat protein & carbs [never in nature!]
You will get BIG INCREASE INSULIN"

Protein & carbs are NOT SUPPOSED TO
SOME TOGETHER
-if eat protein & fat
[animal protein & animal fat as in nature]
-with the modest insulin increase, there
-is equal or greater glucagon increase
GLUCAGON PROMOTES KETOGENESIS
For average individual focusing on health:
-no reason to fear protein
-but DON'T EAT PROTEIN with CARBS
