Adventure 13, Part 3: Misery, Adventure and the Woods
A long day traveling through the backcountry. Rain the day before takes its toll on my feet and crotch with blisters, raw skin and chaffing (something I've never experienced before). Some gorgeous views in a variety of terrains and forest types. My favorite type of trail and forest to backpack through. Gorgeous backpacking through the Golden Hour of the day. A few wild edibles and useful plants: Wild carrot, milkweed, cattail, 'toilet paper plant', flowers. Streams, rivers and creeks, oh my! I still hate rhododendron (mountain laurel), one of these days I'll tell y'all why. An unusual number of power line crossings. Sadist trail planning. A tasteful demonstration of how to poop in the woods. After-excursion celebratory meal.

Gear you'll see: Firemaple backpacking kettle. Eagle Products Norwegian backpacking kettle. BCB British Canteen of Osprey NATO water bottle 58-pattern fame, along with the BCB NATO Crusader Cup. I'm using my floorless Luxe Hexpeak 2p Tipi shelter. The Silky Gomboy 240 hand saw. Keen Targhee boots. My fixed-blade single-tang PKS Mountain Lion belt knife. The lid to my Crusader Cup is a Rothco brand stainless steel canteen cup lid that I bought off Amazon and bend the outer lip out on using pliers.
I packed the Hillsound BTR Ultralight Backpacking Stool but it broke on me the very first night. My mattress is a Klymit Insulated Static V Lite. Humangear GoBites Titanium Spork. Petzl Tikka headlamp. REI Wool Socks, which probably contributed to my feet problems (they were too tight). CONXWAN 3A Fast Charging Solar Charger Power Bank 27000mAh. My groundsheet is a piece of Tyvek that I cut to size. I always carry a Swiss Army Knife and a ferro rod (ferrocerium rod) for firestarting.
