Modern-day western women: kindly get a grip

Seriously, ladies: when will we give up the oppression shtick and surrender to the fact that every frontier has been conquered? You’re no longer breaking barriers or glass ceilings—especially not by saying “I don’t need no man.” 🥴

Like you, I don’t particularly care about this film, or the fact that “Snow White” is no longer white. But I DO care about the fact that—in terms of both s 3 xual and racial politics—many folks in the west want to behave as if ZERO progress has been made in the last 60 years; this is just the most recent iteration, but we see it everywhere, every day, every time a woman or non-white person achieves anything at all, we behave like it’s the first time, and pretend as if so many barriers had to be plowed through. We behave that way EVERY TIME. I’m just wondering how long we’re going to buy that charade for? When will we recognize that it’s just normal for women non-white people to succeed in the modern west, and that they didn’t have to tear down any special barriers? They just did the work.

Lastly: most people—and especially most women—do desire love and companionship. Women are social creatures, highly impacted by and focused on relationships. It’s OK to dream of true love! In this day and age, it’s even somewhat brave to admit you do! Although fairytales aren’t fact, and true love takes work : even the most competent woman is excited by the idea of a man swooping in and taking care of things. Women inspire men to DO just by BEING women. I think that’s pretty cool. 🥰
