Body: Tying thread & Black Lacquer
Hackle: Black
The Black Ant is a requested fly from Ray Bergman's book Trout. It is described in chapter 3 and it is tied in layers if you go by the description in the book. I, however elected to tie the rear and front portions with tying thread and to get them to about 85% of the final size and shape and then complete the rest with three coats of black lacquer. You could use epoxy or a UV resin if you prefer. I explain in the video some issues to be concerned with if you opt to use epoxy or UV resin. This is a great sinking pattern which works well along current seams, eddies and along any bank grass where fish like to lie. -- Enjoy
