Uganda National Bureau of statistics is to prioritize strengthening the quality of administrative data, harnessing nontraditional data like big data and citizens generated data in order to reach the 150 indicators of the sustainable development goals.
During a technical group meeting held at hotel Africana in Kampala the director economic statistics at UBOS Kauda Aliziki Lubega said UBOS is to ensure that all Ministries, departments and Agencies of government follow up on production of administrative data.
United Nations in 2015 adopted the sustainable development goals and Uganda also adopted the 17 goals and incorporated them in the National Development plan.
UBOS invested in production of quality data on SDGs with aim of comparing Uganda’s performance with other countries in terms of what the world prioritized between 2015 and 2030.
A progressive report by UBOS on SDG data of 2022 and 2023 shows, that Uganda is reporting on 201 indictors and has 121 indicators with data points.
UBOS has a target of reaching 150 indicators but the challenge is still on production of quality administrative data.
