On 6/21/2023 at approximately 5:49pm I observed the driver of a black Ford Fusion not wearing a seatbelt. The vehicle began to travel east on East Harding from Main Street. While attempting to get turned around and caught up to the vehicle it began to flee southbound on South Georgia Street. Once on South Georgia I activated my emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle reached speeds of approximately 90mph as it continued south on Georgia Street. From Georgia Street the vehicle then fled east on East 25th Street into the St. John Apartment Complex.
Once inside of the St. John Apartment Complex I conducted a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) on the vehicle. This consisted of the left front of my push bumper making contact with the right rear quarter panel of the suspect vehicle, which led to it subsequently stopping. The suspect’s vehicle sustained damage to the right rear quarter panel as a result of the TVI. The amount of the damage was approximately $500. There was no damage to my unit as a result of the TVI.
The driver was then taken into custody without further incident. The driver of the vehicle was Keyvon Briggs (4/18/2000). The vehicle was towed by Smith's Wrecker Service. During the inventory of the vehicle I located approximately 24 grams of marijuana. All evidence recovered was stored in the Troop E evidence vault. The suspect was transported to the Jefferson County Detention Facility. Due to the detention facility not holding the suspect he was cited and released.
