Apatros Review Ep-0019: The Astro-Zombies [1968]

AR-0019: My first run-in with legendary Psychotronic schlock director Ted V. Mikels, this infamous 1968 drive-in turkey has John Carradine play a mad scientist who has created a zomborg [zombie cyborg] out of artificial organs & the brain of a convicted murderer. You won't win any prizes if you correctly guess that the Astro-Zombie will go on a murderous rampage. At the same time, a group of Communist spies are trying to steal information on how to create these unholy beings, while a hard-drinking bloke from "The Shop" [The CIA] gets onto the case to protect his nurse girlfriend, whose knowledge of the experiments puts her in danger of having her top ripped off & her heart torn from her chest.

A crappy piece of late-1960s drive-in junk that at least managed to get some bums in seats due to the insanity of the premise & Mikels' fans will be pleased to know this one has the infamous Mikels padding up to the nines...

My Grade: D- [Atrocious]
