Garden Update 7/1/23

Things are starting to grow. Today, the weather is hot and muggy. The temp in my cold frame was 80 degrees as per a freezer thermometer that I stole from my wife. Shhhh!

I picked Kale but I found lots of fungus gnats eating the leaves. I also found tons of eggs. I sprayed with a mixture of Neem Oil and water in a spray bottle. That is organic and safe if we eat it. I don’t like the smell but a dead gnat is a good gnat.

I picked a ton of Swiss Chard. In the next day or two, Ms. Diane will cook it and dress it. We will do a cooking video about that.

Please note that I really gave this cold frame and its contents a haircut. I needed to get rid of the kale leaves because they had gnat eggs on the underside. They prefer soft leaves and this is why the Kale was recycled and the Swiss Chard was cooked and dressed. I noticed that these pests don't like leaves like Romaine Lettuce, Swiss Chard and Prism Kale. Next year I will only plant things that the bugs do not like.
