Passing in No Passing Zone, SWARTWOUT, July 4, 2023 - At approximately 10:50 am on July 4, 2023, the driver of a white 2023 Ford Explorer was east-bound on FM-1988 West. The driver decided to attempt a legal U-turn when the driver of the vehicle behind her, silver Chevy Trailblazer (older model) attempted to pass her in a no passing zone and impacted the front driver's side fender. The impact caused the Chevy to roll and come to rest upright facing west in the middle of the pavement. The Ford Explorer pulled into a driveway. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Goodrich Volunteer Fire Department, Deputy Tobias Martinez with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Trooper Kevin Burman with the Texas Highway Patrol. There were no serious injuries. As a precautionary measure, the driver of the Chevy was transported to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Traffic was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. The driver of the Chevy was cited for passing in a no passing zone and minor in possession of alcohol. The Chevy was recovered by LakeView Wrecker, while the Ford was recovered by Premier Wrecker (both vehicles will be stored in Livingston).
