Lessons from Recent Storms

On the night of June 17th, severe storms passed through our area .. not tornadoes, which we don't usually get excited about, but sustained straight winds exceeding 100 miles per hour: The kind of storms that do real damage, particularly when they go on for hours. By Sunday morning, they told us that 1/3 of the State was without power, and that our area might not be fully powered until .. well, TODAY, Wednesday the 21st.

Between making fun of the people who could not connect to the internet with their cell phones and staking up the corn that had been blown flat by the winds, I took advantage of the relative quiet to assess our general preparedness, and ask "What if the power never came back on?"
