What a fun evening it was with Heather Gibbons, a licensed Brain Gym® Instructor/Consultant of 30+ years experience.

After learning Brain Gym in the early 1990s she used it daily in her primary classroom. Knowledge from Brain Gym courses gave her a greater understanding of why people act out, stay ‘stuck’ in patterns that do not allow them to reach their full potential easily.

Brain Gym changed how she dealt with both learning and behaviour issues. Then she discovered it was not just for her students but for herself, assisting her with study assignments, organising programs more easily, improving relationships and assisting to reduce the stress of health issues. Eg. cancer journey.

She has worked with sports players and teams, musicians, and clients with a variety of issues, many of which have an emotional or childhood reflex basis.

So, what is Brain Gym®?
Participants learn 26 effective, simple movements and a 5 step goal setting technique.

It becomes a personal development course as you learn the 10 different goal-setting strategies. It is about feeling better and living life to the full! Once you have learnt the 26 movements, it is a self-help program.

These life skills enhance your life allowing you to relax and be your best, assisting you to achieve academic tasks, be more organised, focussed and motivated. It is great for stress management to reduce writer’s block and meet deadlines more easily! Does your brain need a tune-up?

You will experience a simple movement process so you understand how to check your 3 dimensions of movements: communication/thinking, organisation /emotional stability, focus/comprehension.
You will learn the 4 important movement to get you ready for your day, to PACE yourself: P=Positive, A=Active, C=Clear, E=Energy.

Students can choose specific movements when they are ‘stuck’ to assist them in achieving tasks in literacy, numeracy, and tests; for organisation and focus, motivation and self-esteem, fine and gross motor skills, as well as behaviour, relationships and emotional stability and much more.

Brain Gym was developed in the 1970s by Dr. Paul Dennison at the University of California, where he was awarded his Ph. D. for his research in beginning reading achievement and its relationship to covert speech skills.

When we encounter something new to be learned, the brain requires a lot of energy to balance the new information with what we already know. Stressful learning situations lead us to react rather than reason.

Only a small part of the brain is functioning, thereby decreasing the learning potential. Brain Gym activities are physiologically designed to activate a balance between all parts of the brain with specific emphasis on the frontal lobes and integration between the left and right hemispheres to increase self-confidence and maximise mental, physical and creative abilities.
