Hundreds of volunteers gathered at the Sao Conrado beach in Rio de Janeiro to clean trash and debris on World Oceans Day. The participants then formed an enormous human chain across the sands for an activity called ‘Aquele Abraco’, or ‘That Hug’.
The annual event, first declared in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 by the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), wants to raise global awareness of how much humans benefit from the ocean.
