Kyrie Irving pleads width, media: ‘Stop mentioning me’ ahead of NBA free agency!

DALLAS – Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving is not ready to discuss his impending free agency this summer, he said on social media Wednesday.

In fact, he doesn’t want anybody to talk about it.

The former Cleveland Cavaliers guard streamed on Instagram Live on Wednesday and pleaded with fans and the media to focus their attention on the NBA’s ongoing playoffs, not his playing future.

“Stop mentioning me on Twitter,” Irving said, according to The Dallas Morning News. “All y’all fan bases, stop mentioning me right now. Please. It is still the Western Conference and the Eastern Conference finals. Or excuse me — Denver’s going to the Finals. We’re still waiting for Boston and Miami.

Can you please leave me the (expletive) out of this? Please can I just be with my family in peace? Y’all got people at my dinner table discussing what my free agency plans are. Stop that. Y’all think it’s funny (expletive), but please stop that.”

Irving, 31, has refused to discuss his playing future since being traded to the Dallas Mavericks in February. The Mavericks plan to re-sign Irving this off-season after his contract expires, Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes reported in April, despite the team going 9-18 after his acquisition and missing the playoffs.

Even as the Mavs struggled down the stretch, Irving averaged 27 points on 51% shooting, six assists and five rebounds in 20 games played for the team.

“I am a free agent this summer, but I am in no rush to make a decision,” Irving said on Instagram Live. “The TV personalities, the sports folk that try to mix sports with politics and lifestyle and (expletive) like that — when they speak on my name and they’re talking about potential teams that I’m going to — can y’all please, respectfully I’m asking, please stop paying attention to that?”
