They were separated for 75 years, but a chance social media encounter led to their real life reunion.

Sheik Abdul Aziz, 78, and his sister, 81-year-old Mahendra Kaur, found themselves on separate sides of the border during the Partition of India in 1947. The family was torn apart as some chose to stay in independent India, while others chose the newly formed country of Pakistan. The two were finally reunited when they both saw the same social media post about their story by chance.

The tearful reunion took place in the Kartarpur Corridor, one of the few freely open crossings between the two countries, owing to its religious significance. Both families united in tears, joy and song as the reunion turned into one of the longest family catchup sessions you can imagine.
