Debunking ‘MH370 The Plane that Disappeared’ – The Worst Documentary on Netflix – #1

The new three-part Netflix docuseries ‘MH370: The Plane that Disappeared’ is a podium for baseless conspiracy theories from people who are more interested in fame and notoriety than an actual explanation for the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. This ethically dubious documentary, which offers cheap thrills at the cost of the dignity of those who perished, focuses on the factually inaccurate theories of armchair experts Jeff Wise and Florence de Changy. Based on nothing more than pure speculation, Wise asserts that MH370 was hacked by onboard Russian agents mid-flight in order to shift international focus away from the invasion and subsequent annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation. Intel from shadowy figures led Florence to believe that MH370 was carrying stolen surveillance technology and that it was the Americans who caused the aircraft to go down in the sea. Neither theory is deserving of anyone’s attention, yet this drivel takes up an inordinate amount of the Netflix docuseries’ runtime. Personally I believe that the streaming giant is aware that, even by their standards, ‘MH370: The Plane that Disappeared’ is of poor quality, which is why they have resorted to tricking their audience into watching. Neither the trailer nor the blurb accurately portray the tone or the increasing conspiratorial direction of the documentary, which was how I was fooled into watching it. My hope with this (and a subsequent blog post) is to counter the nonsense spewed by the documentary’s smug, grandiose, and self-indulgent conspiracists masquerading as ‘journalists’ in the hope of preventing others from watching this piffle.
