Friend says light came on when she just started her car. I asked her to go to Autozone to get it scanned with their scan tool(they do it for free) and then tell me what's the code.

P0456: Evaporative Emissions control small leak detected

She told me she did not put any gas and the tank was 1/8th full.

The car was dropped off and upon inspection of the gas cap. The top part was missing. So it was easy to remove and hard to tighten because of the missing top part. I suspect it's a bad gas cap because it cannot be tightened fully.

I replaced the broken gas cap, reset the light and told her to call me if the light comes on. It has been 2 days since I replaced the cap. And no call. The emissions monitor usually clears in a day. The new cap fixed the trouble code.
