2 Samuel 5:1-10 describes how all the tribes of Israel came to David in Hebron and anointed him as their king. David was thirty years old at the time and had already been anointed as king by the tribe of Judah. The chapter goes on to describe how David conquered the city of Jerusalem, which became known as the City of David. The Jebusites, who had previously inhabited the city, mocked David and told him that even the blind and the lame could defend the city against him. However, David's forces were able to take the city, and he became even more powerful and successful as a king.

1 Chronicles 11 provides a detailed account of David's ascent to the throne and the support he received from his mighty men. The chapter begins by describing how the Israelites gathered at Hebron to anoint David as king over all Israel. David's first act as king was to conquer Jerusalem and make it his capital, which he renamed the City of David. The chapter then goes on to list the names and accomplishments of David's top soldiers, including Joab, Abishai, and Benaiah. These men were renowned for their bravery and loyalty to David, and they played a critical role in helping him establish and maintain his kingdom. The chapter ends with a description of David's valor in battle against the Philistines and his wise leadership of the people of Israel.

1 Chronicles 12 continues to describe the support that David received from his army and the people of Israel. The chapter begins by listing the names and numbers of soldiers who joined David from various tribes, including Benjamin, Gad, and Manasseh. These soldiers were skilled warriors who pledged their loyalty to David and helped him expand his kingdom. The chapter also describes how David's popularity grew among the people of Israel, who recognized him as a wise and just ruler. The Chronicler emphasizes the unity of Israel under David's rule and the loyalty of his subjects, even those who had previously been his enemies. The chapter ends with a description of how the people of Ziklag, who had previously been enemies of David, came to his aid and pledged their allegiance to him. The story of David's rise to power is one of courage, determination, and the support of his loyal soldiers and subjects.
