Toddler with autism rescued from electrified train tracks
A three-year-old boy with autism had a miraculous escape when he was rescued from a railway track after being spotted from a passing train. The boy had managed to wander onto the tracks of New York’s Hudson line, when he was spotted by an engineer of another train who quickly alerted crews.
Workers sprang into action to locate the boy who ‘just popped out of a wall,’ according to the radio report. Video footage of the incident shows a conductor eventually finding the boy within touching distance of an electrified third rail, jumping down onto the tracks to snatch him up, with no thought for his own safety.
The toddler was eventually reunited with his tearful mother and sister, and the Metropolitan Transit Authority has awarded commendations to all those involved in the dramatic rescue.
