Octopath Traveler 2 (PC) - Part 51: Destruction Rains From The Heavens! (Castti Chapter 3)

At the end of Chapter 2, Castti learns from an army soldier in Sai about a village that was wiped out by purple rain. So now Castti goes to the abandoned village of Healeaks where everything began to rediscover the final pieces of her memory.

Her first memory of this barren village was hunting Santanejo blossoms with another member of Eir's Apothecaries named Trousseau. Some residents of Healeaks had fallen ill and the group was on the scene to extend a helping hand to all those in need. When everything seemed better, Trousseau's patient had fainted and showed new symptoms that weren't there before. So he marches off to Mt. Liphia to get some santanejo blossoms to treat her, and Castti goes with him knowing the dangers that lie within.

The next day, the group (minus Trousseau who stayed in the village to tend to the sick) returns to find everyone falling ill from some oddly-colored purple rain. As the villagers die one by one, Castti finds a smoke cloud on Mt. Liphia where she and Trousseau got the santanejo previously. At the top she finds none other than Trousseau himself, who had concocted a purple poison that he burnt to make it rise up into the sky, turn into clouds and then rain on down. Trousseau has now come to believe that the source of people's suffering is existence itself, and that the only way to truly ease people's suffering is to end their existence.

As the rest of Eir's Apothecaries leave the mountain, they too start to fall ill from the acid rain, and then we finally see the context of the very first scene of Castti's story, of Malaya loading her onto a boat and sending her away, saying if anyone can find a cure, she can. Now we know what Malaya referred to: the cure for Trousseau's poison rain that killed an entire village and the rest of their group of apothecaries.
