The MILD technique, also known as the "Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams," is a method for inducing lucid dreams. It was developed by Stephen LaBerge, a pioneer in the field of lucid dreaming and the founder of the Lucidity Institute.

Lucid dreaming is the ability to become aware that you are dreaming while you are still in the dream. This ability then opens up the possibility of having more control over your dreams and could even allow you to manipulate them to some extent.

So how do you do the MILD Technique?

The first step is to set your intention. Make the decision to remember your dream and to recognize the dream state while you are in it. You do this much in the same way you that you would set the intent to cook dinner or really do just about any task while awake. You make the decision to do it and you mean it.

The next step is to recall your dreams, whenever you wake up, regardless of what time it may be, make sure to put in the effort to recall the dream you just had with as much detail as possible.

After the you should start focusing your intent. Whenever you start to go to sleep again, whether it be that night or the following night, focus you mind on becoming lucid. Tell yourself “I will become lucid tonight” and really mean it. If your mind starts to drift just gently let go of new thoughts and bring it back to lucid dreaming.

During this time you should imagine yourself in the dream becoming lucid. Replay your previous dream in your head but this time imagine yourself recognizing a dream sign and becoming lucid. Imagine what you will do once you become lucid.

Repeat these steps until you find yourself in a lucid dream. If you find yourself having trouble falling asleep while practicing this technique do not worry, this will only increase your odds of becoming lucid when you finally do fall asleep.

Some people like writing down their imagined lucid dream scenarios in their dream journal as well as playing it out while they drift to sleep. This is a good addition to the technique and will only increase your odds of becoming lucid. It’s also good to make a note of all the dream signs that occurred in your previous dreams. This will help you know what to look for while dreaming
