Ellie Shows Off Her Semiplume Feathers 🦉 04/19/23 18:28

Something sure has Ms. Ellie's feathers ruffled. 😄 As she sits there showing us a full view of the feathers underneath her tail, we see that they are the Semiplume feathers that help her to stay insulated and warm. Unlike the tail feathers, they lack the hook on the barbule part of the feather. Giving it that downey appearance. The tail feathers have a microscopic hook on the barbules to form a wind and waterproof barrier and also keep the feather contoured and uniform to help steer her in flight.
