Starting a new compost bin with horse manure

We built a DIY compost bin out of heat treated pallets. My brother has access to a horse stable. We collected the horse manure and bedding from the stable. Then we started layering the compost, horse manure then browns and water to each layer. He had some food scraps that we put into the middle of pile. I told him to turn the pile once every two weeks to helps incorporate air into the pile.
