Final Fantasy 4 Ultima (SNES ROM Hack) - Part 37: Superbosses Shinryu & Storm Dragon

The Superboss hunt continues as we return to the Skyway to Mt. Heavensward where we fought the dragon horde guarding the Thunder Sword. Here we find one of the more infamous superbosses from Final Fantasy history, Shinryu from Final Fantasy 5! He'll start the fight by using Supernova on you reducing your entire party to single-digit HP and then Vitalizing himself. You're going to want to buff your magic defense as much as possible before you start getting aggressive with Shinryu, because of his Atomic Ray attack especially. Two shots from that attack can wipe your entire party. He also has other powerful attacks like Whirlwind which deals 2-4000 damage to your entire party and two variations of Lit Flash: Full Party triple strike or Single Unit triple strike. He also counterattacks everything, so get your defenses up first. But don't try putting up Wall, or else Shinryu will know and slaughter you. In the final phase he'll counterattack everything with Atomic Ray, which wouldn't be so bad if you took the time to max out your magic defense. Otherwise you're dead. Killing Shinryu will give you the Illumina Sword and the Mighty Guard spell for Paladin Cecil, the Quasar spell for Palom, the Cure 5 spell for Rosa and Porom, and an upgrade for Rosa's Pray ability.

After that, we head back to the summit of Mt. Ordeals wherein lies the Storm Dragon Superboss! This boss has extremely powerful wind-based spells, and can petrify you as well, so protect against those, and don't bother buffing because Whirlwind's damage is directly proportional to the boss's current HP, and Tornado always reduces you to single digits. The boss also has extremely high defense against any regular attacks not from lightning weapons, so have Edge throw stuff, have Kain jump, have Rosa and Cecil heal, and have Rydia use Nuke (or Bio, if you killed Marilith already). When it shudders like Zeromus, it will silently heal itself back to full HP and start counterattacking everything with Tornado, so you'll really want to make every attack count. Killing the Storm Dragon will give you the Dragon Lance for Kain, as well as a Crystal Ring, an Antimatter, and a Void Stone.
