The V8 Speed and Resto Shop crew installed a Holley Sniper EFI fuel injection system, a Tremec TKO 500 5-Speed manual transmission, and a 3.73:1 limited slip rear axle to make this bright red 1967 Camaro Convertible to make it more reliable with better performance. The owner drove it home and reported the car had no issues and is in fact way more fun to drive!

This 1967 Chevrolet Camaro is a great example of a guilt-free muscle car cruiser that was built for the fun of it. It was born at the Los Angeles assembly plant as a Granada Gold convertible powered by a straight 6 cylinder engine hooked to a 2-speed powerglide transmission with 2.73:1 rear gears. A racer it wasn’t. But over time, someone changed the color to the always popular red, white, and black scheme with a steel cowl induction hood, SS badging, white convertible top, and a white nose stripe. A rear spoiler and Silver rally wheels with raised white letter tires complete the look.

The car is now powered by a Chevrolet 350 V8 from the mid 1970s, but we chose to upgrade the fuel system to a Holley Sniper EFI system install. The Sniper is a great upgrade for cars that previously ran carburetors, as they bolt in place of Holley or Rochester Quadrajet carbs.

We also removed the stock 2-speed powerglide transmission and replaced it with a Tremec TKO 500 5-speed overdrive manual transmission, bell housing, clutch, and hydraulic clutch master cylinder from Modern Driveline. The install retains the stock Camaro center console, and locates the 5-speed Hurst shifter in the original factory location. The Tremec TKO 500 5-speed Overdrive transmission not only provides for more driver fun, but provides an overdrive 5th gear for lower RPM highway cruising in this muscle car.

Out back, the 2.73 open differential rear axle assembly was dumped in favor of a 3.73:1 equipped 10-bolt fitted axle with a limited slip differential and Wilwood disc brakes. These three changes - the Holley Sniper EFI fuel injection, Tremec 5-speed, and lower gears have completely transformed the character of this Camaro, and now the performance is as fun as the look. And because this was a non-numbers matching 6-cylinder car to start with, there’s no worry about affecting the originality with the modifications. It’s a win-win-win-win.

We can provide all the parts and services needed to install EFI fuel injection systems on classics and muscle cars, as well as overdrive transmissions, new differential gears, suspension upgrades, disc brake swaps, and more at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop in Red Bud, IL. We can even arrange for transport to pick up and deliver your car anywhere in the world.
