Cristiano Ronaldo was born on the Portuguese island of Madeira. He began playing in the leagues at the age of 8 for the club Andorinha and later Nacional.

He quit school at age 14 to focus on soccer after throwing a chair at one of his teachers. He enrolled at Sporting, the Portuguese club’s academy where Ronaldo quickly gained notoriety by becoming the first player ever to play in 5 different divisions in one season.

By 17 he was already being scouted by Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United. And at 18, for 12.25 million, he became the first ever Portuguese player to sign with Man U. The club would be his home for the next 5 seasons and where Renaldo would prove his true talent to the world.
