Octopath Traveler 2 (PC) - Part 28: Mother Dearest (Throne Chapter 3A)

After winning information on Mother's location in a game of Russian Roulette with The Slaver, Throne heads to the orphanage in Mother's Garden in the city of Wellgrove. There, she meets a young girl named Mira who had just been crowned the newest member of the Blacksnakes. After the meeting, Throne meets with Mira and a young boy who had just been brutally punished by Mother and gets some information about the always-locked door and how Mother's assistant always carries the key and only unlocks it when Mother goes in or out of it. With this information in mind, Throne steals the key and walks out into Mother's Garden just in time to save Mira from another brutal whipping.

Mother is probably the hardest boss fight I've faced so far. Plukk had hard-hitting full-party attacks too, but Mother adds constant infliction of the Terror status effect on top of it. This means you can't Boost or generate BP, and as soon as you remove it, Mother will just reapply it with her next blow, so it's extremely hard to get a really good hit on her. Not only that, but each time you break her, she'll add 3 more shield points (up to 14) on the next round. The end result is a boss fight just as painful as Mother's whip itself.

During the fight, Mother reveals to Throne some stunning secrets about the Blacksnakes and about her birth mother, specifically that Marietta (Throne's birth mother) was the former head of the Blacksnakes and Mother and Father killed her to take over. After cursing Throne one last time in her dying breath, Mother bites the dust and Throne has made herself a new enemy in Mira, who also curses her for killing the only mother figure she ever knew, despite her abuse.

NOTE: Throne's third chapter has two different routes, one for Mother and one for Father. Father's Route will be marked as Chapter 3B.
