It marks the beginning of a new season for all thirty teams in Major League Baseball as well as the one hundred forty-seventh season since 1876 for the Chicago Cubs who begin the season against the Milwaukee Brewers who enter their fifty-sixth such opening day since the franchise began in 1969 and the twenty fifth since moving from the American League over to the National League prior to the 1998 season. The starting pitchers for Opening Day 2023 were as follows. For the Milwaukee Brewers they turned to right handed pitcher Corbin Burns who enters his sixth major league season while ending the 2022 season with twelve wins and eight losses with an earned run average of 2.94. The Chicago Cubs meanwhile turned to right handed starter Marcus Stroman who enters his tenth major league season (second season with the Cubs) and finished the 2022 season with six wins against seven losses against an earned run average of 3.50.
