Should You Buy the KMD Multi USB Port Adapter For the Nintendo Switch
In this video, we test out the the KMD Multi-USB Port Adapter designed to be mounted under the Nintendo Switch Dock.
For those who aren't familiar with the KMD Brand, they are dedicated to making quality gaming accessories at a budget friendly price. They offer accessories for a number of different systems, and the Nintendo Switch actually benefits from a number of their optional accessories. For those who want to be able to plug more USB controllers or accessories into the Switch for charging, the 4-port KMD Multi-USB Port Adapter really unlocks a ton of benefits.
The Switch Dock simply sits right in the Multi-USB Port Adapter. The sides squeeze onto the dock itself to hold it in-place. A USB-A plug exits the side of the adapter which plugs right into the side of your dock for power. I do wish the Port Adapter was held a little more securely as there were times when I was plugging or unplugging USB connectors to the hub and I knocked the dock off of the adapter.
USB accessories passed through and worked with the adapter perfectly. I was able to connect charging docks, controllers, even USB Bluetooth adapters to the Multi-USB Port Adapter and they all worked perfectly. What I have found most useful at this time has been connecting the KMD Joycon Charging Station, 2 KMD Pro Controllers, and my Switch Lite charging stand to the port adapter. Everything just works, and it is so convenient and amazing, such a great space saving tool!
Why it RoX:
- Inexpensive
- Space-saving design
- Expands your Switch USB inputs for use with accessories and USB Controllers
- Draws power directly from the Switch itself
What Could Be Improved:
- Add LEDs to indicate power is on
- What is the Micro USB port for?
- Some sort of permanent mount to the Switch Dock would be nice
- Some of the space savings is lost if you use a 3rd party dock
- No Ethernet connectivity
Should You Buy One?
The stock dock already has 3 USB outputs on it, so why would you need more? Well, there are a few legit reasons. If you play 4-player couch co-op with USB controllers, say for Smash Bros Ultimate for example, this is a great way to connect everyone's controller without issue. For others if you have multiple chargers for other accessories such as JoyCons, Pro Controllers, or even charge bays for the Switch Lite, this can power all of them for you. Best of all, since it sits right under the stock dock, it doesn't take up much room at all, so it really is simple and functional in its design. I do wish that it mounted a bit more permanently to the Switch Dock, and that there was some sort of LED power indicator (and some clue to the purpose of that Micro USB port!), but these are all minor criticisms. This is a well designed accessory that will make it easier for you to connect or power more accessories connected to your Switch.
