Former US President Donald Trump could face arrest and indictment over an alleged hush-money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 campaign.

If charged, it would be the first criminal case against any US president. The Manhattan District Attorney's office is said to have presented evidence to a grand jury about a $130,000 payment made to Daniels.

On 18 March, Trump called on supporters to protest against his impending arrest, raising concerns of violence. An indictment could harm Trump's comeback attempt, with 44% of Republicans saying he should drop out of the presidential race if indicted, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.
