Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that proposals put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping could be used as a basis for a peace settlement in Ukraine, but claimed the West and Kyiv were not yet ready.

Putin went on to accuse Western powers of fighting "to the last Ukrainian" after he and Xi held talks in Moscow.

Xi described his talks as "open and friendly," and reiterated that China held a "neutral position" on Ukraine, while calling for dialogue.

"We are always for peace and dialogue. We are firmly standing on the true side of history," he said.
The pair also signed a series of documents on "strategic cooperation" after what Putin described as "successful" talks.
