As part of the "Big Day Out" celebrations in Glasgow during 1990, one of the settings was the waterfront here at Custom House Quay, where Natalie Merchant and Michael Stipe sang - supported on guitar by Billy Bragg - the classic John Prine song "Hello In There"
A quarter of a million fans attended the four stages that were set up, and a great time was had - with an epic line-up, including Big Country, Aztec Camera, Texas, Deacon Blue, The Associates,Wet Wet Wet, The Silencers and The Average White Band.
The Pogues were unfortunately not allowed to play due to fear of possible sectarian crowd trouble - and on the day only Sheena Easton - returning from the USA with a new accent, met with crowd hostility - vowing never to return.
The shows were broadcast on TV.
The issues of the day - of which there were many - were reflected on by the artists performing - but few hit home as perfectly as this song about isolation and growing old.
Majestically performed here by all, and quite unforgettable.
