THESE People CONTROLS YOU! Want To Know WHO?... Voltaire Quotes
Voltaire, pseudonym of François-Marie Arouet, (born November 21, 1694, Paris, France—died May 30, 1778, Paris), one of the greatest of all French writers. Although only a few of his works are still read, he continues to be held in worldwide repute as a courageous crusader against tyranny, bigotry, and cruelty. Voltaire's work fiercely promotes a vision of progress to which people from all nations have remained receptive through its critical capacity, humor, and sarcasm.
His fictional Lettres philosophiques (1734) and the satirical novel Candide were among his most well-known creations (1759). The former—a collection of writings on English politics and society—was a turning point in intellectual history. It is now regarded as one of the greatest literary monuments in France.
Voltaire advocated freedom of religion, freedom of expression, and separation of church and state. Above all, Voltaire trusted in the power of reason. He thought that reason might be used to advance society and that no authority, whether it be religious, political, or otherwise, should be impervious to the power of reason.
