Good morning, class. Today, I'd like to take you on a journey through the history of the internet. The internet, as we know it today, began in the 1960s as a project of the U.S. Department of Defense. The goal was to create a decentralized communication system that would still function even in the event of a nuclear attack. In 1969, the first message was sent over the internet between two computers at universities in California. The message was "LOGIN" and was intended to test whether the two computers were connected. From there, the internet grew exponentially, and by the 1990s, it had become a global network that connected millions of people around the world.
