Hewett's shelter / camp, on the Bibbulmun Track in Western Australia. If you are leaving Kalamunda heading north to south on the Bibbulmun Track, Hewett's shelter is the first one you will come to. Estimated 12.1 Kilometers (7.52 miles) from Kalamunda and estimated 12.8 Kilometers (7.95 miles) from Ball Creek shelter, which is the next shelter / camp on the Bibbulmun Track heading South. There are some un even step made in the track to make it easier, but take your time, they are not the same depth down, so you are unable to get a steady even pace going up and down them. Apart from the steps there are a few steep-ish hills to walk, just take your time and all will be good. REMEMBER TO CARRY AND DRINK ENOUGH WATER. You do go past the Camel farm, where they do serve cool drinks, coffee, bottled water and snacks. But check the opening times, as they are not open every day. Waalegh is in the Disease Risk Area which requires a three-day period without rain before vehicle entry. Fortunately, but perversely, the expected autumn rains were late and sporadic so in early May a week’s fine weather following showers allowed a Mundaring Parks and Wildlife crew to truck several tonnes of timber, concrete, hardware and roofing materials into the campsite. With more fine weather forecast the nine-person SV team set up camp on the following Sunday and by that evening had demolished the front of the shelter ready the next chapter in its life. Waalegh was constructed in October-November 1994, during the Track redevelopment, by a prison crew that assembled timber and panels prefabricated in their workshop. Being in the best location one could hope for on the Track Waalegh has experienced continued heavy use so an extension to provide more undercover area was obvious and in keeping with member feedback from the 2017 Vision Survey. After six days the roof was bigger, plumbing upgraded, bunk space doubled, seating and tables vastly improved, floor sealed and all timber preserved. This project entailed 18 months of detailed checking, planning and coordination with some on-site modifications required to get around minor problems that happen with most jobs. The team was really happy with the result and hopes that walkers will enjoy the much improved campsite. The lower recreation site at Mount Dale is a pleasant spot for family picnics. The Bibbulmun Track, which runs from Kalamunda to Albany, travels close-by to Mount Dale and the lower area provides an ideal drop-off/pick-up point for walkers. An animal viewing hide has been constructed on the north side of Mount Dale and provides spectacular views over the Helena National Park and the Darkin River Valley. The Mount Dale walk trail has been added to the Bibbulmun Track, at the same time as extending the Bibbulmun Track by about 2 kilometers, it gives you the chance to enjoy panoramic views of the Darling Ranges. Monadnocks Shelter if you are travelling North to South is the ninth (9th) shelter on the Bibbulmun Track. You can reach Monadnocks shelter walking from Kalamunda through the other eight shelters doing your end to end. You can also reach Monadnocks shelter if you get dropped off on Brookton Hwy at the power lines and walk through Canning Shelter, then onto Monadnocks. If you are doing your end to end South to North You will walk through Mount Cooke shelter, then onto Monadnocks. Or for a nice day walk in, you can be dropped off at Sullivan Rock and walk in from there. With the option of walking in from Sullivan Rock, you can use this shelter as a first over night camp to test out your gear, and experience your first night out on the Bibbulmun Track. Dwellingup To Swamp Oak First of all I would like to apologise about the noise in a few parts of the video, I was trying out a new microphone & it made some knocking noises at times. Day one of 3.5 days on the Bibbulmun Track. It was meant to be 7 days, but my knee gave out and I had to be picked up. Lucky I had phone signal, very week, but enough to arrange to be picked up. Monadnocks Shelter if you are travelling North to South is the ninth (9th) shelter on the Bibbulmun Track. You can reach Monadnocks shelter walking from Kalamunda through the other eight shelters doing your end to end. You can also reach Monadnocks shelter if you get dropped off on Brookton Hwy at the power lines and walk through Canning Shelter, then onto Monadnocks. If you are doing your end to end South to North You will walk through Mount Cooke shelter, then onto Monadnocks. Or for a nice day walk in, you can be dropped off at Sullivan Rock and walk in from there. With the option of walking in from Sullivan Rock, you can use this shelter as a first over night camp to test out your gear, and experience your first night out on the Bibbulmun Track. Noggerup shelter / camp, on the Bibbulmun Track in Western Australia. If you are leaving Yabberup shelter heading north to south on the Bibbulmun Track, Noggerup shelter is the next one you will come to. Estimated 19.6 Kilometers (12.2 miles) from Yabberup. and estimated 23 Kilometers (14.3 miles) from Grimwade shelter, which is the next shelter / camp on the Bibbulmun Track heading South. Don't believe the map, there are some steep bits. Not the worse on the track though, just take your time and all will be good. REMEMBER TO CARRY AND DRINK ENOUGH WATER. The pack I am using on this section is the Helikon-Tex Summit Backpack, 40 l, weight 1.2 Kilograms empty. For a fairly cheap pack, it carries well.
