Why do we procrastinate?

Logically every person knows that procrastination is never a good strategy to live life by, but most people still do it constantly. So in order to overcome procrastination, we first need to examine why people procrastinate.

Here's a common misconception about procrastination:

It is not just laziness!

There are more deeply rooted psychological reasons why people procrastinate. One of the main reasons why people have cannot stop procrastination is because they don't understand it. And by default, if you don't know what the issue is, you have no shot at actually overcoming it.

So, let's dive into this:

Why do people actually procrastinate?

A lot of it goes back to our prehistoric times as people.

Back in those days, food was scarce and we were more active because we needed to hunt and forage to get food. In those times, if you were expanding energy without a good reason, you couldn't get enough energy from food to sustain yourself.

And so, taking action back in those times could mean death.

Our brains have evolved over hundreds of thousands of years, and only in recent times do we have the abundance that we have today. But our mind still operates in that same mode of trying to preserve as much energy as possible.

Meaning, we procrastinate as a protection mechanism.

Except, the thing we try to protect ourselves against doesn't exist anymore.

That survival instinct is one of the main reasons why procrastinators procrastinate. But luckily, we also have the tools within us to deal with procrastination, overcome it and get things done.

In this video I share what those tools are and how to overcome procrastination in your own life so that you can achieve your goals and live a fulfilling life.
