Playing "solo guitar” means that we’re playing multiple parts at once: melody, harmony, and bass.

Sometimes even multiple melodies at once.
But when we try to play solo guitar using old habits left over from strumming chords, it ends up sounding stiff and disconnected.
The secret to making solo guitar playing sound smooth and connected is to treat each musical part as its own voice.
To do this we need to place our left hand fingers down on the fretboard only as individual notes are needed, instead of jumping to chord shapes.
This can be very challenging at first, but it eventually makes playing anything so much easier.
In this video I show you how to do it.
