It was a busy day at the off grid homestead with everyone going about their business. Read the full article here: http://www.thedoityourselfworld.com/articles/article.php?id=11407

Chris was splitting and stacking fire wood which we had just cut in the fall. I was working on various homestead chores. Melanie was cleaning the fridge and working on crafts all day.

It was a sunny day and we were bringing in about 40 amps of power into the off grid solar battery bank. This is good considering that it has been mostly cloudy all year so far.

I am working in the greenhouse restoring dead lead acid batteries. My old Bedini motor is still going strong after many years. It can desulfate a dead lead acid battery and bring it back into service.

Right now it is restoring a dead jump starter battery pack which was down to zero volts before. When you pressed the battery test button nothing happened on the meter.

Now it is up to 12.7 volts even after resting all day with no charge. This is quite amazing to see. I figure a few more days and it will be fully back into service again.

Melanie cleaned our off grid fridge today. We have an old propane fridge from a camper which we use to keep our food cold. In the winter months we do not use any fuel at all. It just keeps our food from freezing during the coldest periods.

A cooler keeps fresh fruits and vegetables from freezing in the winter.

Our off grid freezer is working well since the end of October when we plugged it into the tiny house battery bank. Melanie has been using it quite heavily since then.

Later I cut down some dead standing trees and processed them immediately into fire wood for the off grid tiny house wood stove. We heat primarily with fire wood all winter.

Chris and I pumped some of the rain water into the greenhouse aquaponics water tank. We hope to have a fully operational aquaponics system in there by spring.

Melanie has been happily crafting in her new work area in the tiny house loft. She is teaching herself how to make quilts.
