LOD Calculations | Tableau | Intro to Level of Detail Calculations
LOD calculations are
basically nested SQL statements that are useful for cohort analysis. A quick re-cap
on the syntax of LOD calculations. We first begin with curly braces in which we
write our calculation. Then there is a key word – whether you are using a fixed
include or an exclude, which is followed by a dimension you are fixing or hinging
your calculation on. This is followed by the measure you aggregate your
calculation. This is the basic syntax of an LOD calculation.
We will visit the three types of LOD calculations in the next videos – fixed, include, and exclude.
With regards to fixed LOD calculations, it calculates a certain aggregation at a
specified level of detail that is independent of the view. Regardless of anything
else, it will always fix the calculation at that particular dimension.
