The release of director Matt Reeves’ “The Batman”, starring Robert Pattinson, is imminent. It takes place in its own separate continuity and universe, isolated from all other DC projects. But this wasn’t always the plan.

At an earlier point, it was intended to be fully integrated into the rest of the DC universe, and it was to star Ben Affleck, who would also write the script and direct. So what happened? Why are we getting the Robert Pattinson movie instead?
