Doctor Andrew Huberman explains how alcohol damages relationships. Physiological effects drinking alcohol has on the brain and body at different levels of consumption and over time. Some drink every night, some only weekends. Binge and habit-drinking are poison to every cell of the body. Alcohol metabolism begins in the gut then liver, effectively acts as a poison, leading to cellular stress and damage. Alcohol impacts neuronal function and changes our thinking and behavior – hallmarks of inebriation. Alcohol consumption impacts inflammation, stress, neurodegeneration, cancer risk and negatively impacts the gut microbiome, brain thickness, hormone balance, mood and feelings of motivation. Even low-to-moderate alcohol consumption negatively impacts the brain and body in direct ways. The goal of this episode is to help people sustain and maintain healthy relationships and make informed decisions about their alcohol consumption.
